It’s true! This intricately-crafted ornament ornament celebrates the stories of women who may not necessarily have fit the requirements of respectable women of the time (or of today). Doris Duke—with her eccentricities, larger-than-life personality, and a drive to live life on her own terms—certainly lived up to this statement.
About St. Nicolas:
Based in London, all products are designed in-house and made by hand. For over twenty-five years, the company has worked with a charity in Thailand that helps woman find work in their community. Today, some 300 skilled women work at home sewing decorations for the ornaments. The traditional Indian method of zari embroidery is also used. Zari—meaning gold—originated in the Surat district of Gujarat in the 16th century and is a weaving technique that historically used precious metal wires and jewels as embellishment, and is a skilled craft which has been handed down from generation to generation.
